Cliff Martinez: Music for Film
Cliff Martinez: Music for Film
Film Fest Gent presents Cliff Martinez: Music for Film, featuring selected highlights from the 2014 World Soundtrack Awards guest of honour’s music for cinema, performed by the Brussels Philharmonic conducted by Dirk Brossé.
American composer (and former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer) Cliff Martinez has built a successful and distinctive career in music for screen, producing rich, ambient textural scores and soundscapes that are often infused with his unique electronic manipulation of sounds and his own percussion performances. He is well known for his multiple collaborations with directors Steven Soderbergh (Solaris, Contagion) and Nicolas Winding Refn (Only God Forgives), both of which are represented on this album, as are some of his works for other directors including the likes of Paul McGuigan (Wicker Park) and Robert Redford (The Company You Keep).
Unique to this album, many of the pieces have been newly adapted for symphonic orchestra under the supervision of Film Fest Gent music director Dirk Brossé. Where appropriate, the arrangements carefully maintain the balance with the composer’s electronic tracks.
Previously released in 2014, this reissue has been remastered and resequenced, and is now available in Film Fest Gent’s ‘Music for Film’ series with Silva Screen Records.
